"Sea Stories" is but a small collection of some of the experiences of one person's life. Stories told by those that were returning from long trips at sea took on a special flavor. Those that had been away from home for long periods of time would like to tell of their experiences.

The stories told were true, although slightly embellished by the teller. The spirit of the tales were to entertain while revealing some of the things that had happened to them while they were away. Sea Stories, told by sailors of old, were a way to get re-entry into the community from which they had been gone. It added importance to what they had done while they were away and if they embellished them a little, it was to make the tales seem bigger than life. In doing so it added importance to them and what they had done.

It is this writer's opinion that there were many good tellers of tales among those that had been to sea and away from home. While away, their life might have been boring or humdrum. That is why the tales related were of small occurrences and dealt with human factors and relationships. Usually, nothing great occurs to the sailor at sea. He is a part of a unit of men that have a very routine duty to perform.

Telling tales of when a person is away from home is a fun thing to do and usually is of interest to a very select few, like family and friends. People resort to the telling of jokes to one another when there are no "sea stories" to be told. Tales, like those in this book, are fun things to relate and should be enjoyed.

The tales that are told are a little window into the person telling them. There is a lot revealed about the teller of tales, in the stories that he tells. This is particularly so when the tales are real and not fiction.

Both the giver and the receiver of the stories told, should enjoy, and that is the purpose of this book.
