On October 5th, 2008 the members of Jotun's Bane Kindred held an Open Event at Mark's House, in celebration of Winternights.  A feast was held, to which everyone had contributed food, there was a faining to Odin, and a Symbel was held afterwards.  There were 28 people in attendance, including 8 children.

Gifts for Sleepnir were brought and placed on an alter table, along with our horns.  The large central horn is "Theodish Gift."

Before the faining to Odin, Rod explained some of the details of the faining, and what participants should do and expect.  Max, Gary, and Adam are in the foreground.

Rod rarely wears garb, but for this special faining garb definitley appropriate.

This faining, is a very personal one...where the participants gift Odin in return for a gift of wisdom.  Participants were asked to face outwards during most of the faining so they could focus on the task at hand.

The firepit was a new addition to Mark and Jennifer's backyard this summer.

Gifts were sacrificed for Sleipnir...

The remaining mead was libated at the foot of a newly planted oak tree.

Later that night, we held a Symbel.  Rod, Jason, Max (blocked), Craig with the horn, and Alex.

Jamie drinks from the horn, "Theodish Gift."  At this symbel she promised to read the Poetic Edda by Yule...just over 2 months away.  She successfully fulfilled her promise by Yule.
